How ChatGPT remembers on its own

• “When Memory is enabled, ChatGPT can remember relevant preferences and details from your chats and other available sources.” Depending on plan and region, those include past chats, saved memories, custom instructions, files in Library and connected apps such as Gmail. OpenAI Help Center: memory
• Saved memories are details you ask ChatGPT to remember, or that it saves as useful context. They are stored separately from chat history. OpenAI Help Center: memory
• Reference chat history lets ChatGPT use relevant information from past conversations. Unlike a saved memory, what it takes from your chats can change as ChatGPT updates what is most useful to remember. OpenAI Help Center: memory
• There are two experiences. Improved memory keeps a broader summary up to date, and legacy saved memories keep a list of single items. You choose at Settings > Personalization > Memory. OpenAI Help Center: memory

Does ChatGPT have long-term memory?

• In June 2025, OpenAI said Free users get a lighter version of memory that gives “short term continuity across conversations”, while memory for Plus and Pro users “provides a longer term understanding of the user”. OpenAI: memory update
• Its pricing page lists Free with “Limited memory and context”, Go with “Longer memory”, Plus with “Expanded memory and context” and Pro with “Maximum memory and context”. ChatGPT pricing
• On 4 June 2026, OpenAI said memories are now updated automatically, starting with Plus and Pro in the US, and that Plus and Pro get “twice as much memory capacity”. ChatGPT release notes

What Dray adds

• Dray for Chrome saves your chats on chatgpt.com, with their titles and dates and the files and images in them. One switch turns files off. Dray privacy policy
• Chats in the ChatGPT desktop app and on your phone are saved too, while Chrome is running and signed in to the site. The extension reads them from the site in the background, with no tab open: about once a minute while the computer is in use, and every 15 minutes when it is idle or locked. It starts from when it is turned on; older chats come in through “Read my history”. If the site is signed out in Chrome, or Chrome is closed, those chats wait until that is fixed. Dray help
• In your Dray account, AI models pick out the facts worth remembering, and each one links back to the chat it came from. Dray privacy policy

• Claude, Grok and your coding agents search the same memory. Connected as an app, ChatGPT can search what you saved from them too. Dray help
• On a saved chat, the Dray menu offers “Ask Claude about this chat” (or Grok), listing only assistants you have connected. It opens that assistant with the request typed, and you press Send yourself. Dray help
• You can also import a ChatGPT export from your dashboard. Your browser reads the file and sends Dray the text of your chats and the names of attached files, never the files themselves. Dray privacy policy

Limits

• Adding apps needs a paid ChatGPT plan. On the free plan, Dray still saves your chats for your other assistants, but ChatGPT itself can’t look anything up. Dray help
• Dray doesn’t change ChatGPT’s own memory, so it can’t clear a full memory or edit your saved memories.
• Saving chats needs Chrome (116 or later), Edge, Brave or Opera on a computer. Safari, Firefox, phones and tablets can’t install the extension. Dray help
• Reading may miss or misread chats, and memory extraction can be wrong.
• Some business plans switch MCP off or allow only approved servers. Dray: connect
• Dray learns from 1,000, 5,000 or 20,000 of your messages a month, depending on your plan. Going over deletes nothing; new messages wait until the month resets or you move up. Dray: usage
