Write a project brief an AI can actually use

Write the brief around the next decision or task. Include the current goal, checked facts, constraints, and open questions. Label abandoned ideas so the next assistant does not revive them as requirements.

Start from the state of the work

A project origin story is rarely the best opening. Say what exists now and what needs to happen next. For a landing page, that might be a reviewed draft that needs a mobile layout, rather than the full history of how the business started.

Add the constraints that would make a plausible answer wrong. “Use the existing design system” matters more than a long list of adjectives. “Do not change pricing” is clearer than “respect the commercial strategy.”

Make gaps visible

Separate unknowns from facts. If the deadline has not been agreed, write “deadline unconfirmed.” An empty field is safer than a made-up date that gets copied through several assistants.

Keep a date and an owner on the brief. Update it after decisions change, and link to the source when a future reader may need to check why. You can use this template without installing Dray.

Ask about missing facts before making assumptions. Check source dates before reusing an old decision.

USING THIS WITH DRAY

Keep the context. Check the source.

Use Dray to locate relevant captured discussions when preparing a brief. Review the result yourself before sending it to a new tool.

Dray is in beta. Available sources and connections depend on your setup. Read the data notes before granting access.
