How to check the source of an AI memory
Ask for the source behind each important claim, open the original context, and check for later changes. Keep the assistant’s interpretation separate from what the source actually says.
Check the claim that would change your next action
You rarely need to audit every sentence. Start with the fact that affects a decision: a deadline, an approval, a customer request, or a technical constraint. Ask where it came from and whether the source is available to inspect.
A source title alone is not enough if several conversations have similar names. Use the conversation reference and surrounding exchange. If you cannot open the source, label the claim unverified rather than treating a plausible explanation as evidence.
Read for status as well as wording
“We could ship Friday” is an option. “Ship Friday after the review passes” is conditional. “Friday is confirmed” is a decision. A summary that reduces all three to “ships Friday” has removed the part that matters.
Check the date and any later correction. Keep a brief audit note for consequential decisions so you can see what was verified and what remains uncertain. This is especially useful when several assistants have summarized the same material.

For each claim that affects the deadline, provide the source conversation and relevant passage. Mark exact quotes separately from summaries. Check for later changes. Label the decision as proposed, conditional, or confirmed. Do not invent a source reference when none is available.
