Find and fix a missing piece 2 min read

The assistant is connected but not using memory

Ask the assistant to consult the memory tool explicitly and report whether it succeeded. A connected status shows setup state; it does not prove a tool was called, returned relevant context, or influenced the answer.

Ask a question with a checkable answer

“What do you know about me?” is broad and difficult to verify. Use a harmless project detail with a known source. Tell the assistant not to guess if it cannot retrieve the information.

Where the client shows tool activity, inspect it. A missing tool call, an authorization failure, an empty search result, and a misread result require different fixes. Record the observed failure rather than describing all four as “memory is broken.”

Check the authority and the request

Confirm that the destination uses the intended Dray account and current client configuration. A working source capture setup does not establish that a separate destination is authorized to read it.

Check whether routine recall is paused. In Dray, a deliberate /dray request can still read memory while routine recall is paused. Use that only when you intend to allow the access; it is a diagnostic request, not a workaround for a revoked permission.

TAKE THIS WITH YOU

An explicit retrieval check

An illustrative template. Replace the details with material you are allowed to share.

Consult Dray for the Paper Kite test project. Do not answer from general knowledge or guess. Tell me whether the memory tool was available, whether the request succeeded, and which source supports the result. If no matching context is available, say that plainly.

USING THIS WITH DRAY

Keep the context. Check the source.

The Dray help page includes a connection test. Treat sign-in, available tools, successful retrieval, and a correct answer as separate checks.

Dray is in beta. Available sources and connections depend on your setup. Read the data notes before granting access.
