Before you enable file capture for AI memory
Review which files may be copied, where they will be stored, and which connected assistants can retrieve them. Leave file capture off when text context is enough or when you cannot confirm permission to process the files.
Treat an attachment as its own disclosure
A conversation might be safe to reuse while its spreadsheet contains personal data or its document includes an unpublished client plan. Inspect attachments separately from the message text. File names can also disclose information.
Check whether the next task needs the whole file. A small approved excerpt or a checked summary may be enough. If exact formulas, tables, or quoted wording matter, say so and choose the appropriate source rather than pretending a summary is equivalent.
Check what happens after a handoff
When files are stored for retrieval, a later conversation handoff may allow the destination to read them too. Review that scope before sending the handoff, not only when you first enable capture.
If you change your mind, use the available file and access controls and confirm what the change covers. Stopping future capture does not establish that older copies were deleted. Keep a record of what was shared when the material requires one.
